Individual Treatments

Select the right treatment for your child

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy promotes increased mobility, strength, flexibility, postural control and coordination, as well as general health and wellness. It involves an assessment, establishing appropriate client goals and then creating an individualized treatment plan to achieve those goals. Some of the many conditions we treat include: hypotonia, gross motor delay, developmental delay, genetic and other neurological disorders as well as sports and recreational injuries. Pelvic Health Physiotherapy

Pelvic health physiotherapy isn’t just for grown ups! Many children suffer from day and night conditions that can be embarrassing for the child and exhausting for the parent or caregiver. Some common conditions include: enuresis (bedwetting), fecal or urinary incontinence (leaking or dribbling day or night), constipation, fear of urinating or defecating and so much more. Yes these are common, and NO they are not “normal”. Unlike pelvic health physiotherapy in adults, Vanessa uses a hands off approach when working with children. Speech Language Pathology

Speech Therapy focuses on the identification, evaluation and treatment of speech (pronunciation, coordination and motor control required for verbal communication), and language (the ability to understand spoken and written language and the ability to express thoughts, ideas, etc effectively). A speech-language pathologist also plays a key role in early literacy.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy promotes independence with activities of daily life. It involves an assessment of your child’s strengths and weaknesses in critical developmental areas in order to maximize your child’s independence with achieving developmental milestones such as reaching, promoting play as well as with self care tasks such as eating and dressing. An occupational therapist can also assist with academic tasks such as writing, other fine motor skills, attention and socialization skills.

Social Work

Social workers provide counselling, therapy and other supportive social services in order to help individuals and families develop the skills and resources they need to function well in society. Social workers assist individuals and families, to achieve optimum psychosocial and social functioning. The reasons individuals may seek support include: stress, trauma, family issues, life changes/transitions, anxiety, depression, self-harm/suicide, grief, and self-esteem. Social workers can also assist with resource acquisition.

Intensive Therapy Weeks

Intensive weeks are a great option for out of town families! This is a high intensity program completed daily over a minimum of 1 week (5 sessions) with the option to add additional weeks. We will create an individualized program that combines any of our therapists including physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. A 2-3 week intensive is strongly recommended. An intensive week may be ideal for your child if:

  • there are developmental concerns or known neurological conditions including

cerebral palsy, head injury, stroke, or developmental delay

  • they have plateaued in their current physiotherapy program

  • the family has limited physiotherapy resources in their community

  • the family is ready to challenge their child’s limitations!

It involves an initial consultation by phone with the therapists involved, a comprehensive assessment performed by each of the participating disciplines (completed prior to the start of your child’s intensive) and five, daily treatment sessions (Monday-Friday). A treatment session will include direct care as well as parent/caregiver education.

*Timing of assessments can be flexible for out of town families
