School Development Checklist

This school readiness checklist was created by our Speech Language Pathologist and Occupational Therapist. It is a nice resource that can be shared with a parent or caregiver!

Classroom Strategies

Our Speech Language Pathologist and Occupational Therapists wanted to provide educators with some quick tips to create a supportive and inclusive classroom for all children!

Early Literacy & Speech Language Pathology

Speech language pathologists play a key role in the development of early literacy skills.

What is early literacy?

Involves supporting a child develop the skills to become successful readers long before they will actually read.

How can I help a child get ready to read?

You can help through playing, singing, reading, talking and writing with the child.

When should I recommend that a child see a speech language pathologist (SLP)?

An SLP promotes the development of alphabetic fluency including recognizing, naming, writing, and identifying the sounds of the letters in the alphabet. These skills are necessary in order to sound out words and directly impacts the development of both reading and writing. An SLP also promotes language comprehension, expression, vocabulary and grammar.

Squishy Books

Elaine, our speech language pathologist wanted to share the squishy book idea with you! Squishy books are a fantastic way to integrate literacy with the sensory interests of your students.

Do you know a child who is nonverbal or who struggles to communicate? We created this “About Me” template which is a great way for you to get to know this child whether it is for the first day of school, camp, or daycare! Let us know what version you would like. You can choose from our our editable version (as long as you have powerpoint) or our printable version.
